Example Chart: The Moon

I want to make another example of a chart to show how you read the Moon in a forensic chart. The Moon is the second most important point in the chart, second only to the first house ruler. The Moon designates your subject and the condition of the subject at the time in question. For instance, if the first house ruler shows the subject in a safe place but the Moon is hinting at danger, then perhaps this is the subject feeling comfortable in a familiar place but unaware of danger on the horizon. Often, the Moon describes what the subject knows in his or her subconscious but is not consciously aware of. Consider her the sixth sense and the next step for the subject as the event charts unfold.

I will take an example chart of a real case, as I always do, and read the meaning of the Moon’s placements and aspects. This chart is for a real unsolved case that I have yet to tackle on the blog. So this is the first time I’ve looked at it. In this chart, you see the Moon prominent in the angular tenth house in the sign Gemini. It is slightly dexter from a conjunction to Saturn. Is is square the Ascendant and is sinister to a square with Pluto in the first house. It is disposed of by Mercury in the eleventh house, in the sign Leo and Mercury is also the first house ruler. The Moon is also “under the Sun’s beams”, or 11 degrees shy of conjunction with the Sun and sinister.

Now, let’s tear this stuff apart. The Moon disposed of by the first house ruler makes the two planets work like a team.. or like twins. One amplifies the other. In addition, the Moon being under the Sun’s beams lends a negative light, a symbol of fear, trouble and possible oppression or confinement. This placement, being under the Sun’s beams, tells me that this subject is in real trouble and might be held against the will. There is no doubt this person is afraid and anxious. Mercury is part of grand trine, which is a combination that I know facilitates things and makes things happen. This aspect alone can make really bad things go very smoothly. Creepy, huh?

But let’s get down to the meat and potatoes of this chart. The Moon in the tenth sector tells us that the subject is out in public somewhere, or, at the least, visible to other people. Just dexter from Saturn the Moon tells me that this person may have just been “hijacked” or kidnapped. Especially since by leaving Saturn the Moon falls under the Sun’s beams. An interesting twist in this chart that I cannot resist pointing out is how Mercury, the first house ruler, is exactly sextile to Pluto in the first. Mercury in the eleventh tells me that the subject was felled by a friend and that he or she was forced into a situation right out in the open, where others may have seen it happen. I say this because Mercury contacts Pluto in the first while disposing of the Moon. Remember always that the placements of the Moon are paramount and here the Moon is under the Sun’s beams and sinister.

Another consideration is the sinister square to Pluto which will happen as the Moon changes signs. This shows great violence in the future. Yes, this subject is in grave danger. She or he has a rough ride ahead. Because of the grand trine, this event will go smoothly for the perpetrator and not provide an out for the victim. The Moon is near the midheaven and close to opposition to the nadir. This is an indicator that the event will be famous locally, that it will get a lot of attention from authorities. Newscasters will pick it up and make a case of it. It will be well known. This will be hard on the family and the family will be thrust into the limelight unwillingly. Getting off the subject a bit and moving away from the Moon, I must make note of the node in the fourth. The family was destined for this; this event is a part of a life pattern whereby the family would experience this. I know that sounds otherworldly and new agey but the node is about karma and life lessons.

Back to the Moon. Notice that the Moon is closing in on conjunction with the fixed star, Betelgeuse and also within 2 degrees of Sinistra and sinister. Betelgeuse hints at an accidental death while Sinistra describes wanton attack. This reads for me to be that perhaps this person is raped or ravaged and then killed in the commission of that crime. His or her death may not, in fact, be intended. I have seen such a line up in the charts of children who were raped or used for sex and then killed in that process. This is shored up as well by the waning conjunction of the Moon to the part of death. The part of death is in this chart is placed in 23 degrees of Gemini. The Moon has just passed that point, showing that actions put into motion within hours before this person disappeared had everything to do with his or her demise. The part of death gets into the passenger seat, so to speak, when it is touched by the Moon. The aspect is dexter so perhaps that was a part of the original idea but it changed as time passed. Or perhaps just the translation of energy alone set the events in motion and everything that occurs afterwards is overshadowed by this aspect alone. This has to be considered.

So you can see how the Moon can paint most of the picture, if not all of the picture, in a forensic chart. It certainly lays down a lead in for the tale that is yet to be told. She may be considered the conductor of the orchestra, while the ruling planet is the lead instrument. The entire chart I compare to a song because so many elements have to come into play for it to sound or feel right. But singular elements stand out and create the underlying beauty. The Moon is one such element.

Try casting a chart for an actual case and studying the placement and aspects of the Moon. Is she angular? What disposes of her? To which planets is she sinister? And, is she involved in a special configuration such as the one in our example? Consider every single thing you can think of. You might even discover a few angles I have overlooked. And remember that each Astrologer is unique and that you can only read in line with your own personal viewpoint. Not everyone shares my beliefs and so their readings would differ in some ways. Don’t be shy of allowing that to happen. A great deal of this work comes from the heart…. all you need to do is listen to your own.
